There has been some positive development with regard to returning
stability in the Central African Republic. The African Union has
readmitted the country to the group, ending a three-year suspension
following the coup staged in March 2013.
Members of the Seleka rebel coalition roamed the capital of the
Central Africa Republic, Bangui, and ousted President Francois Bozizé.
This earned the country the wrath of the African Union (AU) which
slapped a suspension on the country from its membership.
The AU condemned what it termed as the unconstitutional change of
government and asked the rebel leader Mitchel Djotodia to immediately
return power to civilian administration.
Three years later and after the successful completion of the
transition process and the restoration of normal constitutional order,
the AU peace and security council has welcomed the Central African
Republic back on board. The Council further decided to lift all other
measures that had been taken to ensure that the CAR stakeholders work
irreversibly towards the restoration of normal constitutional order in
the country.
