The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has assured Burkina Faso of the world organization’s full support as he started a two-day visit to the West African country.
Ban made the remarks during a dinner hosted by President Roch March Christian Kabore in Ouagadougou, adding that Burkina Faso “has come a long way”.
The UN Sec Gen alluded to the popular insurrection that drove Blaise Compaore from power in October 2014 and ensuing events that followed including the unrelenting terrorist attacks in the country.
“I am aware that Burkina Faso has come a long way for having suffered so much hardships since October 2014 popular insurrection, September 2015 coup attempt and the January 15 deadly attack,” Ban stated.
“I am here to assure you of the United Nations commitments to you,” the secretary general said.
President Roch Kabore on his part said that his country is now in a steady path towards the democratic process consolidation.
“The national reconciliation and the political dialogue continue in a peaceful climate, but we remain fully aware of the challenges ahead,” he said.
