Trump Russia: Democrats say firing special counsel could cause crisis

Senior Democrats have warned President Donald Trump not to use a controversial memo as a "pretext" to fire the special counsel investigating alleged Russian involvement in the US election.
They warned that such action could trigger a constitutional crisis not seen since the Nixon era.
The memo, written by Republicans, accuses the FBI of abusing its powers.

At least one gunman has opened fire from a vehicle on passersby in the central Italian town of Macerata, with reports of up to four people injured.
Shootings took place in different parts of the city, including near the town's train station, Rai state TV says.

CHAN 2018: Nigeria, Rwanda record slim wins, Libya lose, Eq. Guinea out


Day two of games in the ongoing Championship of African Nations (CHAN) produced a goal each as Nigeria beat Libya and Rwanda also beat Equatorial Guinea.
The Nigerian side recorded their first win in the tournament thanks to Ibrahim Mustafa’s strike on the 79th minute mark. The team had drawn goalless with Rwanda in their first game. For Rwanda, Thierry Manzi’s 66th minute strike was enough to secure them all three points.

Malawi president asks cabinet to lead 'prayers for rain'


A dry spell and worsening pest infestation are threatening Malawi’s staple maize crop, prompting President Peter Mutharika on Friday to call on government officials to lead prayers for rain.
Impoverished Malawi is periodically hit by food shortages as the tropical southern African country relies heavily on rain-fed agriculture and most of its maize is grown on small plots by subsistence farmers.
The current dry spell has been exacerbated by an outbreak of crop-munching fall armyworms, a pest from Latin America that first threatened African crops late in 2016.

Nigerian banker gives birth on Air France flight 35,000 feet mid-air


A Nigeria woman gave birth on board a flight after she went into labour a week earlier than her delivery date.
Toyin Ogundipe delivered her son, Jake, in mid-air about 35,000 feet above sea level. The 41-year-old and her daughter, 4, were aboard an Air France flight heading to New York.
She is a banker resident in the United Kingdom and was making the trip from the French capital, Paris, to New York in December last year.
