Chile churches attacked before Pope Francis visit

Several churches in Chile have been attacked or vandalised ahead of a visit by Pope Francis next week.
Three churches in the capital Santiago were damaged by firebombs. Some flyers left behind warned that the next one was for the Pope.
But at another church south of the capital, a pamphlet used a phrase that refers to activism in the indigenous Mapuche territory.

Saudi Arabia has for the first time allowed women to spectate at a football match, part of an easing of strict rules on gender separation by the ultra-conservative Muslim country.
Women fans filed into a stadium in the city of Jeddah on Friday, through family gates into family seating.
But even segregated as they were, their presence in the stadium marked a significant moment for the Kingdom.

The US father of an adopted three-year-old girl has been charged with capital murder after an autopsy ruled she died from "homicidal violence".
Sherin Mathews was first reported missing from her Texas home in October, triggering a large search operation.

Donald Trump must apologise for comments - African Union

The organisation representing African countries has demanded that US President Donald Trump apologise after he reportedly called nations on the continent "shitholes".
The African Union mission in Washington DC expressed its "shock, dismay and outrage" and said the Trump administration misunderstood Africans.
The US leader made the alleged remark in a Thursday meeting on immigration.

At least 18 people have been confirmed dead in mudslides in California, as officials admit the window is closing for other survivors to be found alive.
Authorities believe five people are still missing, aged between two and 30.
Four children are among the dead, including a three-year-old girl who died alongside her mother.
