A German politician is facing a police investigation over inflammatory comments made on New Year's Eve.
Beatrix von Storch, deputy leader of Germany's far-right AfD party, had her Twitter account suspended on Monday following anti-Muslim remarks.

Brazil prison riot: Dozens on the run after deadly clashes

Police in Brazil say 77 inmates are on the run after escaping amid a riot at a jail in the central state of Goias.
The authorities say nine prisoners were killed and 14 injured when a group of armed inmates invaded a wing controlled by a rival gang. One of the victims was decapitated.

Trump attacks Pakistan 'deceit' in first tweet of the year

President Donald Trump has accused Pakistan of lying and deceiving the United States while receiving billions of dollars in foreign aid.
In his first tweet of the year, he also alleged Pakistan harboured terrorists.
Pakistan reacted angrily to the tweet, saying all the funding was accounted for and that Mr Trump was bitter due to the "US defeat in Afghanistan".

The longstanding leader of the New York City Ballet, Peter Martins, has retired amid accusations of sexual harassment and abusive behaviour by ballet members.
Mr Martins, 71, was placed on leave last month pending an investigation.
He denied the allegations in a letter to the board announcing his retirement, according to the Associated Press (AP).

2017 was the safest year in history for commercial airlines, according to industry research.
There were no passenger jets crashes anywhere in the world, separate reports by Dutch consultancy To70 and The Aviation Safety Network found.
