Angry residents clash with South African police during violent protest

Residents of a Pretoria West community clashed with police on Thursday during a violent protest that resulted in the blocking of roads and burning of public property.

The protesters from the informal settlement called Gomora numbering about a 1000 were dispersed by riot police who fired tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades to control the crowd, local media News24 reported
.
The protesters are reported to have attacked the police, security services and journalists with stones.
They also blocked roads and burned tyres and other public buildings including a learning centre of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in the province.

Two people were reported to have been arrested after torching a truck.
The reason for the protest is unclear but local media say the residents are demanding for better services in their community.
