South Africa's ANC to force Zuma to quit as president - eNCA TV


South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) said on Saturday it would work for close coordination between the party and the government, declining to comment on a report its executive planned to force Jacob Zuma to step down as president.
South Africa’s eNCA television station said on Saturday morning, the ANC’s National Executive Committee had resolved on Friday evening to request Zuma to resign and if he refuses he will be forced to step down by the party’s top six official.

UN warns of "lost generation" in South Sudan's grinding conflict


Seventy percent of South Sudan’s children are out of school and the young country risks losing a generation that would make it harder to rebuild after conflict ends, a United Nations official said.
South Sudan, which split off from its northern neighbour Sudan in 2011, has been gripped by a four-year civil war sparked by political rivalry between incumbent leader Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar.

U.S VP Mike Pence in Cairo on four-day Middle East tour


Vice President Mike Pence has arrived in Cairo on Saturday on his first visit in a four-day tour to the Middle East. Pence plans to visit Amman and Jerusalem as well This is the first U.S. high-profile official visit to the region after the American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December.
Egyptian website Egypt Today reports that a 20-member delegation arrived in Cairo last week coming from Greece, and prepared for the anticipated visit of U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.

DRC: Catholic church presses on with planned Sunday march


The Roman Catholic community leaders planning a peaceful march on Sunday in the Democratic Republic of Congo have said they will go ahead with the protest despite a lack of approval from Kinshasa authorities.
The Comité Laïc de Coordination (CLC) – Committee of the Catholic Laity – said Friday that “Christians, believers and men and women of goodwill” from all walks of Congolese life are asked to join them, and to disregard any rumors that the event had been canceled.

One of the biggest rubbish dumps in South America has closed in Brazil after almost 60 years.
The Estructural dump in the country's capital, Brasilia, had processed more than 1,000 tonnes of rubbish every day.
But its closure is likely to have an impact on a nearby favela as many of the residents rely on scavenging.
